FLOWERFACE, the final single from my upcoming album Dominion of Spells is OUT NOW! Have a listen to Flowerface, along with my other new singles, and pre-order the new album HERE.
Inspired by the Welsh goddess Blodeuwedd from the Mabinogion, Flowerface explores a figure created from blossoms, exalted for her beauty but punished for betrayal and attempted murder. The song reflects on the dangers of valuing surface beauty over heart, mind, and will, as well as the consequences for those who underestimate the resilience of women – and flowers! It feels apt that Flowerface is out today just as the blossoms are at their zenith!
I wrote this song in my own garden in spring, imagining Blodeuwedd’s transformation into an owl as the magicians’ final, misguided attempt to control what they could not understand. In owl form, Blodeuwedd discovers solitary freedom in the night.
I’m joined by a stellar cast for this recording: Louis Campbell: acoustic & electric guitar; Lucy Farrell; vocals; Mary Hampton: vocals; Will Schrimshaw: drums, Lucy Revis: cello; Sam Sweeney: violin; Neil McSweeney: electric bass.
The cover photo was taken by Emma Ledwith, featuring an owl mask made by the artist Lucy Wright. I recorded the film below in Deborah Máire Nelson’s beautiful Sheffield flower shop Moonko, filmed by Kate Griffin. Please do check out their amazing work!
Dominion of Spells is available to preorder HERE from Hudson Records in album book and vinyl forms as well as digital download. The album will be released on 1st May 2026. Thanks for supporting my new music and happy listening to FLOWERFACE!
